It Makes a Difference Where Excess Fat Is Deposited
Have you ever wondered if it makes a difference where your fat is stored on your body. The obese people most vulnerable to heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes, cancers and early death tend to have more of their fat deposited in abdominal areas rather than the hips and thigh area.
In other words, health risks are greater for those who have most of their body fat in the upper body expecially the trunk and abdominal areas. This is called android obesity, in comparision to gynoid obesity which is usually the storage of fat around the hips and thighs.
This can be measured by looking at the ratio of waist to hip circumferences or the waist circumference by itself. A high wiast to hip radio or wast circumference predicts more complication from obesity.
The fat cells in the abdominal area tend to be more active releaseing and taking up fat molecules than those in the gluteal and femoral areas. When the supply of adbominal fat is too great, the cells release their fat into the blood vessels that go to the liver; the fat that travels to the liver may is usually or may be linked to negative health consequences.
