Default So I'm trying to loose 50lbs and keep it off

I'm at approx 250-260 right now, at 5'11". Big mofo or stocky anyways.

In the past when I used to go to the gym daily my workout consisted of:

1) Jogging (or attempting to jog) at least 1 mile on the treadmill, sometimes going 1.5 miles.
2) 15 - 20 minutes on the elliptical machine
3) When I had the time, I'd swim at least 2 - 3 laps (one lap is going from one end of the pool to another) in a junior olympic pool.

I haven't gone for a few months now, and I just started going again.

I know diet is a large part of weight loss, along with portions.
So I'm going to try to cut out fast-food, sodas.. anything high in carbs / fats.

What do you guys think? Being Asian, carbs are a staple in the diet, but I think my main problem is the portions I eat.

My doctor just said to eat less carbs and do cardio for about an hour.

So.. Thanks for the help and support!

- Jonathan

Jon,

Start small and make some minor diet modifications and at least go for a walk every day. The weight loss tracker at the top of the forum page is a great tool to help determine how many calories you are actually eating.

I am/was a similiar size, once upon i time I started at 228lbs at one point and dropped down to 175 at about age 19

since then i have been of and on and now weighing 225 and at 18 % body fat wich neither bad or good but an accomplishement for me because i use to be at 34 % when I restarted working out 4 months ago.

Currently I do a little cardio and weight train primarily but my goals are a bit different. But when i was fat the main thing that made me lose the weight was cutting out all and any junk food and sodas. I started to slowly drop the weight and did my work out routinely 4 nights a week for 1 hour at a time and focused primarily on cardio for endurance reasons, as my body began to changed i noticed that my upper body began to look really skinny in comparision to my waist at wich point i began core excersises and light weight training ...... too cut the long story short

i went from fat to slim

then to just slim and then i bulked it up slowly and surely and boy did I feel good
