I think there is somthing wrong with my presses. I havent had the guts to start bench pressing and im still using the smith machine. I can comfortably press 60k on the smith machine but noticed that my close grip and normal grip press are identical, ive been told this aint normal and was wondering if my normal grip presses are being let down by one muscle group?

I would really try to break away from the smith machine. It limits you because as long as you have the machine to help you, you won't develop the muscles necessary for balancing on a normal bench. Start out at a low weight and start benching without the machine and I think you will see some good gains.

I would think the smith machine is the culprit...you don't have to worry about stability.
I tried the smith machine for awhile as I was afraid to crawl under a standard bench and get 'stuck'. I gave up the Smith machine and went to dumbells...they served me very well, balancing out my arms and really prepping me to feel confident on a regular bench. |
