Default My Doctor tells me to get off the Vitamins

My Doctor told me to get off the Vitamins and natural Herbs and says most of them are garbage and can cause damage.
Then he tells me what is on the side ingredients may not be what is really in them.
I take them daily
Anyone ever told the same

I take a single multivitamin everyday. I've always been told they are helpful. Never heard anything to the degree that you are getting. What kind of vitamins and herbs are we talking about here?

Another thing to think about is although physcians are medical doctors most MD schools don't require nutrition courses. Did they mention why they wanted you to stop taking vitamin supplements? Do you have a high level of fat soluable vitamins in your system?

He just said they are bad and they grow the herbs in dirty places I think you hit the nail on the head (MD schools don't require nutrition courses) I have 7 Docs. I see most are young Doctors and say nothing about the vitamins one of the young Docs. told me to try vitamins it is one of the old Docs. that told me not to take them and just take my medication.

What were you taking? OK I see it

I was lucky, my first doctor when I was growing up was very holistic, he recommended Vitamin C, and discouraged Tonsillectomies.

There was an article in Men's health about prostate cancer being aggravated or caused by excess vitamins. But that was in excess, like I take them.

I'm not familiar with Herbalife, although I have heard of them. of course they grow herbs in dirty places, it's dirt!

Sometimes when people are on medication doctors ask them if they are taking anything else because it could interfere with their medication. I would ask him why he said that and to be specific.

In my opinion natural supplements and herbs are better for you and they don't have the harsh side effects that medication has. I know sometimes medication is necessary but I don't believe it should be taken for every little thing and that is what's being done today. Many people's health problems could be alleviated if they would just change their diet and not by popping a pill every minute.

DAMN!!! did you say you have 7 doctors?????

Are you terminally ill, or post - op? , or have a serious medical condition?

if so then you should follow your doctors advice and not advice from a message board , as they will presumably all not be mistaken and of course know your personal situation the best.

However if you are not critically ill or have a serious condition that requires you to see so many doctors, then unfortunatly ( and not trying to be an ass here ) but I think you problems are more mental than physical, and nothing we tell you is gonna matter anyway , as you will always seek to ask the next guy, and the next guy and so on ......

My advice at that point would be to do what you feel is best for your own situation.

Good luck. I hope that everything works out for you.

Best advice is to do your own research in situations like this.... you'll find 10 docs.... w/ 10 different answers. All of which will be correct to some extent, in some situations.

Regardless, if you're going to use products, try to research the companies producing them. You'll find that the way a company carries itself and presents itself says a lot about the product they are selling.
