My opinion: Huge blunder by the FDA.
Alli does work by hindering the absorption of fats (I think approx 30% of what someone ingests or so). Fats one takes in must go somewhere (users should fear passing gas). The other problem will be that many fat soluble vitamins will not be absorbed by the users of Alli. Those most at risk will be the people who lower calorie intake, thus lowering nutrient intake, and further blocking nutrient absorption through use of this drug. End result is going to be mild to moderate malnutrition among some users. A more common end result will be many, many, many pairs of soiled underwear. Gross but true.

lol I paint a bad picture i guess. There will probably be many, many happy users, but it's a serious product that need researched before just anyone tries it. The typical side effects of loose, greasy stools and "leakage" can be managed.... but someone who isn't eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet will be at risk of a lot of health problems down the line. Just think...... doctors everywhere will agree you need to take in Omega 3's for heart health. But then the FDA approves a drug for OTC use that can block fat absorption. Omega 3's are a fat.... but imagine the fat soluble vitamins we all need for good health.
Not trying to sell our products over Alli..... just saying research this one well before use. (and carry an extra pair of undies in your purse)

Anal leakage was the name of my favorite band in the 80's.
I never even thought about the fat soluble vitamins, that would be a bad thing not to absorb those.

and you make a really valid point, omega 3's are fats and are necessary so blocking absorbtion is bad....yikes!

This is what I heard Alli's claims were,I believe that they also recommend users to wear dark pants.

From their website, "You may feel an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it's probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work"
myalli.com – what are treatment effects?

No sir, however, if someone was obese and this pill could be proven to help them lose 25-50% of their body fat I could see them taking a few sharts for it. But we will have to wait and see how well the pill works and if the pros are worth the cons.

They recommend limiting the intake of fat and using the effects of Alli as a negative incentive not to eat fat. Sort of like the pills for alcoholics that cause redness and nausea if you drink.
If someone obese could limit their fat intake, they wouldn't need the pill. My mom used to shart herself when she was bulimic and taking laxatives.
