(finally joined the forums)
So, I've already worn my other ones out (asics) but I'm not so impressed with them that I want another similar pair... I went and tried on a lot this afternoon and found these: Men's New Balance MR8507WB-ZIP - New Balance Shoes for Men and Women. Free Shipping & Exchanges. They were super comfortable and VERY lightweight... any experiences with these or NB in general? They will be dedicated to running only... i do around 3 miles a day now and there is a half-marathon in 4 months i would really love to be able to run... |

If you are going to be serious about running, I would recommend getting fit by a professional. Most people get a shoe that "fits" when it should be a size bigger to allow for foot expansion and room in the toe box. You'll want to do a wet test to see what shape your arch is, and someone to look at you run. You need to find out whether you would be best suited by a motion-control, stability, or neutral-cushioned.
Those NB looked very stiff? what is your normal running surface? If you run on concrete those might kill you. more info

I've had running shoes from several different brands that fit me well, but it was often model-specific.
Go to a running shoe store and get fitted if you don't already have a good inclination of what proper fit is. It will be worth it. |

at 300+ pounds, you could run in anything padded and it would feel great. per square inch, your footstrikes are devastating.

I just bought a new pair of running shoes from Academy. NB 644. They fit well and are pretty light weight. So I get them home and decide to do a little research (after?)... come to find out they're called "the country walker"! WTH! Why were they on the running shoe isle? And why are they all fancy looking like a running shoe?!
Oh well, I only got them to wear to the gym and to get started running. Once my distance gets up to something that matters I'll go get fitted and buy some REAL running shoes. At the gym I only run for about 5 minutes on the treadmill to get warmed up, and I hope to start running on Saturday mornings... just a mile or two for now.
