Default Running for fun..?

So I had a question. As most of you know, Im on a reverse diet and trying to bulk up and not lose any weight. However, I absolutley love running at the beach. It's so calming and relaxing. I don't know the mechanics of the body, so my question is that if I run often, is it going to make me burn the little fat I have? Will I lose weight?

Cause I don't want that. But I want to run at the beach.

Thanks.

you just need to eat homeboy, and eat and eat...

I would go insane if I couldn't run.

I dont have the money to eat that much.. Food gets expensive when you eat a lot of it..

So as long as I ate more, then I would be fine?

Cause I think I'm going to start running again. That was always a lot of fun. I enjoy being out in the sun, hearing the waves, smelling the ocean.. everything.

Sweet.. 300th post.

I would say that in the grand scheme of life, if you love to run on the beach then run on the beach. You have the misfortune of being a hard gainer for muscle. I believe that there is a transformation of the muscles about age 26 that changes the shape of a man, and at that point you will gain some weight. I think it has a lot to do with why men are bigger than they were in High school. Even football players are bigger in the pros than college, and I don't think it is just because we can gain 10 pounds a year in muscle.

I could be wrong, and someone will jump in to tell me. I just think at this stage in your life, that you are not going to be arnold. However that does not mean you are doomed. Like I said before, do some shoulder exercises and back work to build up a general evenness.

Also, because of the type and distribution of your muscle fibers, you may want to run before lifting to recruit the fast twitch fibers. But either way, this is going to take time, more than two months.

haha. Yeah. I hear ya.. Honestly.. I dont want to be big "Arnold" like.. I dont like that. I'm not much for the big muscles and stuff.. just lookin to get rid of the twiggyness. But I suppose you are correct in that since Im only 22, Im sure things will adjust a little later. My dad was like me.. and now he is normal (not overweight or twiggy or anything, just healthy average).

Thanks dude. I think you're right. I'm going to run.. because I love running at the beach. I'll figure everything else out as it happens.

LeagueChamp; Im not a fan of sprints.. I prefer to just jog. Im more of doing it because it keeps my legs stretched (something that sitting in my cubicle all day long, and sitting at my school computers all night long does not do), and to enjoy being outside. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You have to work out for a specific time and within a specifc range to start using fat as a substrate.

I see... alright. So my little 15-30 minute jog up and back on the beach probably wont actually do much anyways?

Nah. heh. I dont. There is a whole bike/running path up and down the Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan beach strand. And I run on that.

I always hate running in the sand. It's very difficult and I always feel Im about to roll and break my ankles with every step.

By the way, it felt great to be out there again today. I did my jog down a ways and back. Kind of overcast, but still decent.

I think most cardio makes you lose weight if thats what I remember from my college nutrition class. hmm. weights maybe I wouldn't give up your run though it is probably doing alot for you in the stress area which is way more important than looking buff. Good luck!

Im sure hes buff enough, to be honest with you I throw up a little in my mouth each time I see a hugely ripped person. The body is amazing but you can so tell when someone is shooting up steroids. I wish I could run for fun, I swear I get out of breath so easy and my lungs hurt haha. thats the only exercise that does that to me. If you are buff like Cabezon says, just maintain :)
