Finally got off my lazy ass and started going to the gym doing cardio again.
Anyways, I want to change my diet to accomodate weight loss. What types of foods should I be buying? I work 9 - 6, so on my lunch I usually go out, or I eat at my desk. I figure oatmeal / cereal is a good way to get started in the morning, and usually lasts me till about 12:30 if I eat at 9am when I get into work. But for lunch / dinner, what should I be eating / types of food I can get at the store? Thanks. - Jonathan |

Since I started working, I've been eating way too much Chipotle (steak burrito, with rice, beans, guac, corn, salsa), and turkey sandwiches (avacado, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, white roll) from the local Ralphs during my lunch hour. I'll usually polish off an entire burrito during that hour or the sandwich if I get that. Or I eat food that's here in the office, salads, pizza, cup noodle etc.. Breakfast changes as well. It goes from a cup of oatmeal with some raisins / brown sugar, to granola bars, or sometimes I don't eat anything till my lunch hour. Dinner varies anywhere from a piece of grilled salmon (palm sized), Thai/Chinese take-out, or grilled piece of steak. I think most of the time, if I ate 1/2 a portion slowly, I'd be full, instead of inhaling a double portion of whatever it is I'm eating. Dinner is usually never very consistent. I still live at home, so dinner is usually prepared / bought by the time I get home. But I think relying on someone else to cook a healthy dinner isn't going to get me anywhere, neither is eating Chipotle every other day.. |

Jon,
You can start packing yourself some sandwiches on whole wheat bread, or a salad with some protein on top for lunch. Some good things to purchase: Baby spinach Sliced turkey Chicken breasts Baby Carrots Light cream cheese Whole wheat tortillas Smoked Salmon Balsamic Vinegarette Whole wheat bread Light Mayo Avocados Turkey Wrap: Whole wheat tortilla half-avocado, mashed with a few tablespoons light cream cheese few slices turkey breast small handful of baby spinach couple drops of balsamic dressing Place the avocado, cream cheese mixture onto the tortilla, top with the turkey, put the baby spinach on top of that, add a few drops of the balsamic vinegarette, then roll up like a burrito. You can cook the chicken breasts the night before, top the baby spinach with them, carry the vinegarette in a separate container. Hope this helps!

you and me bro! I do the same thijng, but substitute moes for chipotle. if you saw my post about my encounter with a frozen pizza. you would see that those bad boys have your entire days calorie allotment in one pizza. those cup o noodles and ramen are 100% fat.
how I defeat the daily snack attack is by having a lot of good snacks handy so that I am constantly nibbling. In my desk I have raw almonds and some clif bars. I have apples, yogurt and water in the fridge. one of my foes is eating huge portions. I have to learn to cut my meal in half and wrap it up, before I start eating. So cut that chipotle and save it for tomorrow. you'll save money too!

I think a lot of positive changes are going to be in place for the next generation of kids starting grade school now. Healthier school lunches, no vending machines, PE is now designed differently heart rate monitors are being used. We are making the progress we need to really cut down on a lot of health complications and improve the quality of our lives. |

also buy baby carrots, cut up celery, cut up apples (sprinkle lemon jucie on them so they dont turn brown), grapes, and some broccoli. baiscally these are great desk snack foods that wont pack on a lot of calories throughout the day.
