Default Exercise for Surfing

So this is more just an informational thread because I wanted to advise this book for anyone who wants to surf, or be more fit for surfing or ocean water sports in general.

Fit To Surf. <--- Click to go to the Amazon page for more info on the book.

Such a great book. It goes throught everything from stretches, to muscles, to endurance, to balance. It goes throughout all kinds of good How To's for all the exercises AND includes pictures. Plus includes suggested workout routines in the back of the book and advises you on how to combine the exercises into your own routine. It's very nice..

I kind of forgot about the book and had stopped looking at it for the past couple months since my surfing had decreased.. but I really plan on incorporating more of it into my workout routine. :yes

Just wanted to inform others. Also, if you have any tips on training for endurance and muscle strength for water sports, go ahead and post them in here. Thanks.

That is a great post, especially for those who surf.

How would riding a mechanical bull like a surf board prepare you? Personally I think this would be a great way to get used to staying up. However, I wouldn't try it, nor would I try surfing.

To be honest I think I'm born to drown. I can't even water ski, and I sink.

I almost drowned when I was a little kid, it was a pool party. Swam a lot until I moved away in the 5th grade. Really haven't swam a lot.

League, are you talking about a real bull or a mechanical?

I remember standing on a slide and trying to fly down it as fast as I could and always having inertia do me in at the bottom.

I could just picture someone trying this on a mechanical bull.

I myself would not be trying to surf the mechanical bull. I would do it to a 1,000 pound boy with horns first. I feel like when I fell off I would have more incentive to not land on my head, and run away if I was on a real one, haha!

Bull riding has a lot more to deal with leg power and not sitting on the bull completely. You can almost predict where the bull is going to go and react to it.

Well yeah and if you're riding a bull like a surf board it wouldnt be predictable and hard to control, so therefore it would be like the ocean

I committed to learn to surf next summer, so I can teach my kids...so this will be a big help, if not just a good read.

Nice! Good luck on the learning.. the book doesnt focus as much on HOW to surf, as it does how to prepare your body for surfing, and surfing better from being in shape for it.
