Default Gatorade while training?

What's everyone's opinion on drinking gatorade while training- be it with weights or while doing cardio.

I usually only use it when I'm hungover or something.

Reason I ask this again is that I was reading some book on sports nutrition at Barnes and Noble the other day and the authors were mentioning that it's good to supplement with carbohydrates while lifting.

In any case, I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.

Well, for post workout, I'd get something with a little more sugar, I don't like having to drink a whole bottle just to get 28 grams of sugar or however much is in a whole bottle.

CHO-E will increase the frequency of task completion, along with elevating blood glucose, and reduced perceived exertion. CHO-E additionally offers the potential to enhance exercise capacity by elevating blood glucose and thereby preventing hypoglycemia, maintaining high rates of carbohydrate oxidation, and/or preventing central fatigue. However there are really no additional benefits with regard to hydration status and physiological function during loaded exercise under heat stress. In my opinion I think it has to many calories for the individual trying to lose weight.

Just read your reply you might be better off just drinking water during your workout then. Also CHO-E is carb-electolyte solution which gatorade is classified under.

Another thing to consider is if you are taking creatine if your post work out drink contains caffeine which will retard the effects of Cr.

I drink gatorade on long bike rides, especialy if it's really hot out. I need the sodium that it provides, and the calories don't hurt, either. But I'm in a different boat than the average person who is trying to loose weight. The chances of me gaining weight on a ride where I am burning 5,000-6,000 calories is pretty slim, haha.

I agree with long endurance type events it's pretty much a need for a nice glucose solution to prevent hitting the wall.
