Default water

I know you're supposed to drink 8 glasses a day of water, but what constitutes a glass? 10oz? 12oz? I don't know about anyone else, but I hardly ever drink from a glass. I'm one of the poor fools that has got sucked into the bottled water market. So far today I've had 2 1/2 16.9 fl oz bottles. I'd like to track what I drink in a day, but am not sure if the goal is 80 oz or 96 oz.

Honestly I hardly ever drink water if i don't have bottles in the fridge. I'll fill them up one or twice after I'm done with them before I throw them out. A good indicator is urine colour. Anything dark yellow or orange is bad. If you find yourself thirsty you are dehydrated.

I agree with Josh, urine is a good indicator. If your urine is very pale yellow to clear, you are drinking too much water. Your urine should have the color of strong lemonade.

I have always read that the recommended 8 glasses a day is 8 glasses (at 8 ounces each) per day.

I drink about that much per day. I normally go through at least 2 liters of water a day. According to my one liter bottle, there are 4 servings of 8oz's in each liter.. so two liters makes the 8 servings of 8oz's of water that is recommended.

I agree with them on the urine thing. It's a good indicator.

I do drug screens, and I have to say that many African Americans do not drink water as recommended. I think it might be cultural. Often their urine is so dark, I think it might be chunky.

Kidding aside, I do get a lot of people with cloudy urine, which is not good.

Yeah, I used to only drink soda.. I was a firm NON-water drinker until about a year and half ago.. Sometimes I wonder how I survived throughout the first 21ish years of my life.

I was speaking to an Sports RD who is also a researcher about a year back and we were discussing this and also coffee. That for individuals who are avid drinkers of coffee that it is actually considered a serving of water to the RD's next time I speak to her I'll ask about the sparkling water. My assumption would be that it counts since it's only adding carbonation.

Sparkling water defintely counts towards hydration. So does juices, milk and now apparently coffee as well.

as long as you are intaking enough minerals (salts and other stuff), water is king. I do find that juice hydrates me better sometimes, especially when I'm working in the kitchen and sweating a lot.

I absolutely looooove juice. I feel it hydrates me just as much as water, yet tastes like 23,242.6 times better!

Juice has as many carbs and sugars as soda, FYI.

In the wild you would not be eating 6-10 oranges or apples in a sitting, the way you drink juice.
