I got some instant oatmeal from Whole Foods. It's flavored (apple+cinnamon), but seems to be a bit less artificially crazy than the big brands from the regular grocery store.

not the flavored ones with the processed sugar. Just get the plain instant oatmeal and add your own fruit/honey/brown sugar/maple syrup, whatever.

if it tastes "good," like damn, I could eat another one of those, then that's kind of a red flag...

Our tongues are conditioned to think that salt/msg and sugar are what tastes good in a kinda a compulsive kinda way...

I'm adjusting to eating better, which largely means a little less of the flavors that I'm used to, not that better food tastes bad, it's just a little more subtle and natural with the flavor.

When it doubt, read the ingredients list, if it's heavy on the hydrogenated and corn syrups and so forth... pass.

The main reason I think sugar is bad is that it wreaks havoc on your blood sugar levels, which seem to be, according to my feeble understanding of the situation, where the false cravings for things come from.

I like eating my oatmeal with honey and a little bit of butter especially on a cold winter day because it really warms you up.

I need to stock up on some more oatmeal now that you mention it. The weather is starting to get colder which makes it a great commuter meal, since you can make it runny and drink it.
