Default Caloric Intake

What's the best way of determining one's target caloric intake?

I ask because I know it varies drastically depending on one's overall goal.

Ok I'll give you a quick run down of what I've done since I took up weight training. I started off at 215lbs (very overweight for my height 5'9)

In about 4 months I dropped 40 lbs which left me at 175lbs. My current weight tends to fluctuate from 170-175. I can't figure out why for the life of me

Originally I was just planning on dropping more weight until I got to "my" ideal number of 165lbs. However, seeing as that I've been able to maintain a good diet and weight program for a while now, I decided I want to bulk. I'd like to bulk up to 180lbs, then cut from there properly.

I've never bulked before so I want to be certain that I know what I'm doing before I even begin. How can I determine my target caloric intake?
