Default Chinese food? Really bad?

Hey, i seen something on tv about chinese food the other day and i was wondering is it really that bad for you? or is it just somethings you can order? I love chinese food, i eat it like once every 2 weeks.. I order either chicken Lo Mein, chicken fried rice or General syo's (or whoever u spell it). I know egg rolls are extremely bad for you but what about everything else.

Americanized chinese food is not the greatest for you in terms of healthwise, but having it once in a while is not going to kill your waistline.

Some things you can order that are a bit healthier:
Steamed veggies and steamed chicken/pork (sometimes comes with a dipping sauce that can be really yummy)

Steamed brown rice (healthier than white rice because of more fiber)

Steamed dumplings (dim sum)

Wonton soup

I moved this to the Nutrition Forum, as it pertains more to the info there.

I really don't think that a serving of the rice is going to put you over the limit. Especially if your training.

There are carbohydrates present in many other foods, not only rice and other starches.

You need a certain amount of carbs to function normally (literally!). Your brain uses glucose as a source of energy.

Low carbohydrate diets work because you are excluding an entire necessary food source and hence, cutting calories.

Whole wheat rice is pretty easy to cook, use the same 2-1 proportion of water to rice as with white rice, but it will take about 4 times as long to cook than white rice, as you have to soften the bran outside as well. Whole wheat (or brown rice) is really good for you.

Ya i know it takes forever! i just bought a pressure cooker so hopefully that will speed the process up.. I usually add chicken an peas and stuff when i cook rice. I like to eat it after my workout for th carbs.

of course, but you need 6-12 servings of starches are needed per RDA recommendations.

A pressure cooker should speed it up somewhat.
