Hello to all oldies and newbies!

I've starting working out in health clubs about 10 years ago, starting with Lady Fitness. I didn't exercise regularly till 5 years ago. Now I work out in the gym 3-5 days a week and enjoy activites/sports such as: tennis, golf, sculling, kayaking, softball, volleyball, soccer, bike riding, skiing, camping, shooting guns, and cooking for friends. I like traveling and being active, but even more so I love to eat! That is the main reason I don't see the results that I want. I spend the time burning calories, but it's hard changing my eating habits.

I never had the $ to pay for a personal trainer, so I decided to study to become one myself! In OCT this year, I obtained my personal training certification through NASM. I just recently applied for a PT job w/ 24 hour fitness and got hired! I'm still waiting to start as they hired all new trainers for this brand new location. I believe only 1 out of 10 hired trainers actually have working experience. I'm told that some of the others don't have NASM certs, so I'm hoping my education gives me an advantage.

I still plan on applying what I've learned to myself as I am not in the shape that I want to be in. Over the past 7 years, I had gained 20 lbs, putting me at 160 (I'm 5'6"). I managed to lose 10 lbs in 1.5 months by just cutting out fried foods, eating more fruits/veggies and sticking to my work out, but then after vacationing at an all inclusive resort in Mexico, I gained 6 lbs back in a week and haven't been able to get back down since.

My goal is body fat reduction, tone and firm, increase strength & endurance, and help others with their goals through personal training.

I'm looking forward to learning from everyone. It's one thing to have the education, but another to apply the training with clients. Our gym had their grand opening today and I got my 1st client. woo hoo

:-) Yup. I prefer shooting trap over hand guns at the range.

Welcome! NSCA puts out a great journal, glad to hear about your new job in the fitness industry. It might be hard starting out with all new people especially if you never worked in the setting before. Team up with older people who have experience and that is a great way to learn.

What have been some of the bigger changes you have made recently.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm the oldest one there @ 33 yrs old (lol). There is one female trainer relocating from another cityand one other younger guy w/ more certs that everyone else has been getting help from.

Since I learned NASM's fitness model, I went from working out on whatever eqpt was available, to actually trying to stick to a program. For my cardio, I do interval training for better caloric expenditure. For my weight training, I'm working w/ a slower tempo--what a difference, and focusing more on my core.
