Default Cycling Goals

My main goal this year is to ride the Death Valley Double Century. 200 miles w/ approx. 9,000 total feet of climbing. Target time will be 13 hours.

This weekend is the Palm Springs Century, but that's more of a fun, slow paced ride. My target time is 8 hours for the 100mi. ride.

I'm 5'10, 170, my target weight is 165, but very lean w/ very low body fat. I know thats heavier than most cyclists, but I don't want to sacrifice ALL of my muscle for the sport, haha.

As far as goals for muscle growth, pretty much everything could use some more strength and defintion.

I knew a lady from the canadian national team. Cycling is a very demanding sport from the small details in how to pedal, in regards to just pushing down and not pulling up.

I believe your only suppose to push down, but from my understanding it take a long time to master that technique. I'll see if i can find out because the closet I've gotten to riding is a spin class.

As far as pedaling goes, you're supposed to utilize the entire stroke: up, down and everything in between... it doesn't mean I'm good at it, though.

I left the magazine at my room in Palm Springs, but I am going to buy a new one, since I never finished it.

Oh, for anyone wondering about the ride in Palm Springs, I did it in around 6 hours :)

I just got my new issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise by the ACSM and I found so many articles that I thought you might like since we were on the subject.

Muscle deoxygention and nueral drive to the muscle during repeated sprint cycling

Influence of hydration status on thermoregulation and cycling hill climbing

Relationship between %HRmax, %HR Reserve, % VO2max, and % VO2 reserve in elite cyclist
