I dont think so.. even if you have "fat" on your stomach, the muscles are still in there to be worked.

That's like asking if it is worth it to change the oil if the car is dirty.

the core muscles connect your top and bottom and assist in every exercise that you so. I didnt realize how much abs were involved until I started doing abs before pushups, and included planks.

you need your abs, even if you cant see them.

The core is very important and really helps prevent a lot of problems that people who are over weight tend to get. Lower back pain, poor posture, general fatigue, etc. I would really suggest doing a core day. Lower back exercises are great to don't forget those.

I have a much stronger midsection from sitting in the front leaning rest (plank) and doing ab exercises at basic.

I'm no longer wrestling, but I'm helping the coaches out a little this year, I can tell a difference in the way I move around and the overall strength increase from my midsection.

Right now I would get my ass kicked in a weight lifting competition if I went against myself from 4 or 5 months ago, but I would probably stay close in a strong man competition (even though I lost about 30 pounds of mainly muscle). So yes, it will still help you alot.

I'm kinda in the same boat.
Def not pointless. Doing abs and back have made my trunk feel much more solid.

The lack of six pack washboard abs does not seem to be related to the muscle, but the fat. To that end, I've ramped up the cardio, so, if I can burn the fat off, I hope to reveal some buried treasure. Yaar!
