After you do a warm up and then again when you work out do these stretches:


Before each "stretch" take a deep breath in and then exhale as you stretch to get the most out of it.

HOLD EACH POSITION FOR 10 SECONDS:


Legs:

Stand up with feet wide apart and hands high in air. Reach with the left arm and touch the floor next to your right ankle basically kissing your knee. Repeat with the right arm and left ankle. Then reach high and go straight down the middle to try and touch the floor inbetween your legs and reach as far back as possible.

Now sit on the floor with your legs spead out as wide as possible. Reach with the left arm to grab the right foot. Repeat with right arm and left foot. Now go down the middle and aim to get your belly button to touch the floor. Put your legs together and try to grab your feet, as you reach down treat your vertabre as if you are laying down a strand of pearls one pearl at a time.

Back:
Sit up with both legs on the ground so you again are making a 90 degree angle with your body. Place your left foot over your right leg next to your knee, take your right arm and push off the bent leg to stretch your back. Do the same with the other leg.

Now do a bridge. Basically lay on the ground. Place the palm of your hands next to your ears on the ground (your fingers will point the opposite direction your toes are). Place feet flat on floor. Now push up with your belly button so your body looks like an upside down U. Shift the weight from your hands to your feet by rocking and that will strengthen hips and shoulders.

Shoulders:
Sit up with both legs together on the ground so you again are making a 90 degree angle with your body. Keep your hands stationary as you move your feet foward (like scooting foward while your fingers are pointing the opposite direction as your toes). Your goal is to be completely flat.

can you explain that? i don't know what the laying down a strand of pearls means.... how does that apply to my back?

i have no idea what you're telling me to do here... pictures or video? or can you explain a little better?

When you lay down a strand of pearls, each individual pearl is laid down one at a time, so basically as you lay down, your lower back touches your lower body first and then your head is the last thing to touch your body as you stretch.

Here is a picture of a bridge



and here is a picture of the shoulder stretch

basically that is the starting position and you keep your hands stationary while you scoot your butt foward and try to lay down.

Livewell is right yoga really helps get you flexible. You might want to get a basic hatha yoga book. The one I have is called, " A Guide to Yoga" by Janice Jerusalem.
