I would say it really depends on how your using jumping rope. Are you incorp it into a protocol with other exercises to increase your heart rate such as power lifts, are you using it for a warm up, or are you using it some other way. It could also be used as an active rest such as in between sets or exercises in which you need time to recovery from a previous activity.

I've been using the rowing machine lately, and it's defined my back pretty nicely. Midsection is also getting smaller.

Have you considered buying a bike? you can get used ones for pretty cheap. Check out your local classifieds. These are also good places to get cheap cardio equipment people don't want anymore. It would probably be worth investing in an elliptical or at least 1 cardio machine for your mini-gym.

ah cardio.. ive been trying to incorporate it more often during the week. I usually go on the treadmill, but im someone who gets bored easily, and as much as the treadmill gets my heart rate up im tired of just running :-x..

got me a jumprope and am still trying to get better at it and not get my feet all tangled up lol. im gonna stick with it cuz i am getting better. all the alternatives you guys posted are great, ill try to use some of em' :)

What i use to do when i really needed a jump start was erg for a while then go for a run when i wasn't able to keep my form anymore come back in and bike. This is when i ran a DoD fitness center and had all the time in the world though.
