So we're nearing December now, and here in Maryland the temperatures are dropping into the lower half of the 40's.
Personally, I've been working out more at the gym, using the rowing machine. But I prefer running much more, as I got into a good habit of it this semester. However, with the temperatures getting colder and with the wind picking up its getting harder to motivate myself to run in the cold. Whenever I finish running or playing sports outside at these temperatures I notice my throat usually clogs up, and my muscles tend to be sore a bit longer than usual As far as I know, working in the cold weather causes your body to burn more calories in order to maintain body temperature. That's about all I can think of right now. So for motivation to get outside, what are some benefits to working out in the cold weather as opposed oppose to mild/warm weather? |

Yeah, definitely is beneficial in my eyes. Cold outside means your body temp would stay a little lower and you can avoid getting too overheated. On the other side, it's cold out and you working out is making you warm.. so you dont have to sit inside with blankets/jackets building up a nice winter layer.
You're out of the house saving money on your heating bill and electricity from being a couch potato in front of the TV. ![]() That being said.. I understand what you mean. Winter is usually much harder for me to motivate myself to get out into the ocean. Colder water temps = not as comfy out there floating around in between sets. However, less crowds make it somewhat more appealing. There are advantages and disadvantages to it all.. but I think Cab made a good point with the fact that AFTER winter, you'll be looking fit and good while everyone else makes that "Oh crap, I need to join the gym to lose all this holiday weight and heck, I'll even make it a New Years resolution while Im at it." ![]()
