We try to incorporate some SAMBO and a few aspects of other martial arts. Good luck with the Judo, its a very solid base for MMA.

If you have a few schools in your area, spend a few nights at each and see which one you like best. Let me know if you have any other questions!

As for my fight... I'm official. I signed up today. It will be on July 6th and I will fight at 170. (unless something drastic happens and I end up at 155.)
Awesome man. I am not ready to move to MMA just yet, I don't have the time to devote to training right now, and my situation is too good in Judo right now. We have a fledgling Judo club at USC, and right now I'm basically getting free, 1 on 1 instruction with my Sensei who has been doing judo for 50 years, learning from the first wave of Japanese immigrants who came over after WWII.

Next fall we're going to try and train for some competitions if we can get everyone showing up regularly and be dedicated (always a lot to ask).

Good luck on your fight. 170 has some big bangers, and least make sure your standup defense is ok or it could be :wave ;)

What rules do you fight under, Octagon or Ring? Elbows?
