Yeah, definitely is beneficial in my eyes. Cold outside means your body temp would stay a little lower and you can avoid getting too overheated. On the other side, it's cold out and you working out is making you warm.. so you dont have to sit inside with blankets/jackets building up a nice winter layer.

You're out of the house saving money on your heating bill and electricity from being a couch potato in front of the TV.
That being said.. I understand what you mean. Winter is usually much harder for me to motivate myself to get out into the ocean. Colder water temps = not as comfy out there floating around in between sets. However, less crowds make it somewhat more appealing.
There are advantages and disadvantages to it all.. but I think Cab made a good point with the fact that AFTER winter, you'll be looking fit and good while everyone else makes that "Oh crap, I need to join the gym to lose all this holiday weight and heck, I'll even make it a New Years resolution while Im at it."
